These are my girls.

Every Friday, I go to lunch with these girls.
They are my “lunch bunch”. But they are so much more than just my lunch friends. These girls are some of my closest friends, my coworkers, my family. They are my listening ears, words of encouragement, arms of love. They are my prayer warriors. These girls are there whenever I need them, to do whatever I need. They are a warm hug when I feel alone. Mom’s when mine is out of reach. Sister’s to rejoice with. Crafty friends to “scrap” with. They understand when I need to vent. A source of strength when I feel week. They are my support, my words of advice, my confidants. But the thing I value the most about them is their love. I know these friends truly care for me, and love me for who I am. When you ask these girls to pray, boy do they pray. And we have seen amazing things happen in our lives that can only account for that one things.

Thank you girls. Thank you for being there for me, for loving me, and giving me the opportunity to love you back!

Apples & Pumpkins

On October 30th, my friend Jenni (and husband Dave) hosted a Apple Dipping & Pumpkin Carving party at their home. Scott had a meeting at church so I fared the party alone with 2 little boys. It was a fun evening but a little overwhelming for me. Some things even I can't do alone with 2 boys!

Brendan really enjoyed decorating the Carmel Apples. I do believe his favorite part was eating his creation. Jenni noticed the boys were eating their apples before dinner, I told her there was no way we could let 2 year olds decorate a candy apple and explain to them they couldn't eat it yet...some battles you just choose to loose!

Pictured below:
Jenni, Myself, Tawni (and Caleb) and Robyn after dipping apples, before the decorating.
Brendan making (and enjoying) his creation.
Sammy eating the M&M's off of his nicely decorated Apple.
And Tawni with her sparkly apple (33 weeks preg, can't wait to meet her new little guy that will create all sorts of trouble, I mean adventure, with the other 3!)
After pizza, we went outside to carve pumpkins. Now typically I am pretty ambitious and I want Brendan to get the most out of holidays, but being without my other half, I decided to wait for next year when Daddy could help carve the first pumpkin. Besides, 3 is a much better age to understand pumpkin carving. So we took the boys outside, and I helped Brendan draw a face on his pumpkin with a permanent marker. I thought a permanent marker was ambitious enough for a 2 year old!

Pictured Below:

Brendan with his pumpkin that he picked out at the pumpkin patch earlier that day.
Tawni & I with our 3 (and a half) kids. We look exhausted in this picture!
I decided to keep the kiddos inside for the rest of the evening. We didn't actually last much longer. Caleb wouldn't sleep and it was getting close to bedtime for Brendan, so we took off early. Still I am glad we went. We had a good time, and I love watching the kids run around and play with each other. They sometime get loud and crazy and crash cars into each other, but they have fun, and I love watching them play together. Anytime I can share that type of community together with friends and their families I do!

Mud Puddles in San Diego

While I was still on Maternity leave, my roommate from college came to visit us before moving far away. We don't get to see her too often, so my best friend Tawni and I packed up the boys for a trip to San Diego to spend the day with Shanda before she left.

San Diego is always close to our hearts. We have many memories through college and after of spending time together at the beaches in San Diego. So it only seemed right that we would visit the beach one last time before Shanda's move.

Unfortunately, the day we picked was quite over overcast, but the boys enjoyed playing in the sand. You can see pictures and Tawni's take on the day at her blog Life with the Websters.

Before we even got to the beach, we had a picnic on the grass. But boys will be boys...they found a mud puddle to splash in. Shanda of course, got it on film! My son loves, dirt, mud, and anything in between! Oh well, it'll wash...

Scrapbooking Weekend

A couple weekends ago, I had the opportunity to have some quality girl time. Some friends from work invited me to go away with them on a scrapbooking getaway. To be honest, I was a little afraid to go. I have not scrapbooked in almost a year; my excuse was that it was difficult to do so while Brendan was running all over. I also was a little afraid of branching out and going someone where overnight with a bunch of people I did not really know that well. However, since I had missed the one in November due to family issues, I had promised that I would go on the next one.

I decided not to go up on Friday night with everything that had been going on at home; I thought I would only leave Scott home alone for one night. Saturday morning Natalie picked me up, bright and early and we headed up the mountain to big bear.

The drive up was an adventure in itself! We made it about 1/3 the way up the mountain and were told that we could not go further without chains. Natalie and I turned to each other and realized we would have to turn around and get chains to get up the mountain. (Here is the part where my husband inserts “I asked you before you left the house if you had chains!”) We ask where the nearest place to buy chains were and are told to turn back and go to Wal-Mart or Chevron in Highland. Our first stop was Chevron since it was closest, $80 for chains, and we find out that it will cost us $40 to have them installed once we get up the mountain. We decide that $80 is too much and go to Wal-Mart. Of course, everyone driving up the mountain that weekend needed chains as well and they were out of the size we needed.

Our next choice was to either go back and wait in line at Chevron, or drive back to the Wal-Mart in Redlands for chains. The chains at Wal-Mart were only $35, much better than $80. Two hours after we left my house, we are less than 30 minutes away at Redlands, but on our way again! (Husband: “I told you so!” Yes dear, you were right). We did have to stop and pay the nice men in yellow install our chains. I told Natalie I had seen it done before and instructions were included but I was not about to stand out in the snow, pregnant, trying to put chains on the tires. We finally made it up to the cabin in the snow, but it was beautiful. The snow covered mountains, the white silent trees, all spoke of God’s Beauty to be admired and praised.

Although the drive was long, I was very thankful to have the time with Natalie just to talk. We talked about work, life, family, her newest Grandbaby that was due to arrive in just hours, all the usual topics. We were also able to talk about our walks, God’s beauty and I was able to share how God had been moving in me lately and get some feedback from someone who has been there before.

As far as the actual scrapbooking weekend went, I had so much fun. For not having scrapbooked in over a year, I had a lot of catching up to do. One of my goals for this year (Count this as another resolution) was to get caught up on Brendan’s Baby Book and Scrapbook before the next baby comes along. I was able to crank out 22 scrapbook pages for Brendan’s album. I was so excited. It really motivated me to get back into scrapbooking. I realized that it is one of my stress relievers. IT gives me the opportunity to just sit down, let my creative juices flow, and create something that came just from me to be admired for years. It documents my son’s life and is filled with the love of his mother. I hope to keep it up and continue to create pages for his scrapbook. Maybe not 22 in one weekend again, but if I did only one a week, I would get caught up.

On Sunday morning, we got up, had breakfast, and scrapbooked some more. We left the cabin about 1:00 in the afternoon. The snow had stopped so we did not need the chains on the tires anymore. I ensured Natalie that taking chains off was so much easier than putting them on. The man in yellow instructed us not to pay someone more than $10 to remove the chains. Instead, pregnant me got down on my hands and knees and removed the chains from the tires! (Sorry, no pictures to prove it). I did have some help from the other girls, and it really is not that difficult. The trip back down was much less eventful, but I was happy to be home to my boys.

The weekend really made me appreciate the opportunity to make new friends, and get together to share something we all have a passion for. Later this month one of the ladies already has a scheduled Saturday to come over and scrapbook at her house, I am excited!

Humanities & The Nutcracker

During my Sophomore year of college, I took probably one of my favorite series of courses. Humanities I & Humanities II. Although I loved the instructor and how passionate he would get about ROME! I think that it was more of my classmates and our take on the course that bring back such fond memories.

We took our very first test for the course, and didn't do so well. From then on, we decided to have a study group the night before the test. Our tests were always at 9:00 on Thursday mornings, so getting everyone together on Wednesday nights were a bit tough. Being the young college students that we were, went to the only logical place to study past 9:00 at night - Denny's. We would laugh so hard during these study sessions, surprisingly, we actually would remember quite a bit. I will never forget that Alexander the Great died (when Sam?) 323 BC. And Charlemagne was crowned king in 800 AD on Christmas Day (even though he didn't want to become King). From Flying buttresses, to the dates of import people, we would find some little quirk to remember the information. Sam was always the humor of the night, and we usually had to call him at 9:00 the next morning to tell him the test was starting and he wasn't here yet.

One of my favorite memories of the course was completing our Cultural Experiences. We had to visit 3 a semester. Our last one of the Fall semester was seeing the Nutcracker. I found cheap tickets for the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. My roommate Shanda, Karina, Sam & I all got dressed up to go see the ballet. As I called Sam that afternoon to remind him he needed to look nice, he said that he was ironing him pants and looking forward to it. But as we got in the car to head to Hollywood he tells us girls "Someone told me there is no talking during this thing, did you know that?" To this day, I still crack up at his surprise that we were taking him to see the Nutcracker, with no words, but pure music and dancing. It's a cultural experience Sam!

Every time I see the Nutcracker has come to town, I think about our night out. I looked for pictures of the evening, but couldn't find any. I'm really surprised that Shanda & I got dressed up and didn't take any pictures. But the memory of that night, still makes me smile.

Single Parenting

I am very thankful that I am not a single parent, I have a loving husband that is going through this with me. Because of Scott's work schedule, I feel as though I take the brunt of the childcare at home, but I think that most women, when completely honest, will say the same thing.

Last week, Both Scott and I had "plans" (although not yet discussed with the other yet) to hang out with friends. Being that Mondays are on of the only nights in which Scott and I both have free, we don't get a lot of time to spend with friends. Scott graciously agreed to have his friend come over to our house to watch a movie so that Brendan could stay home with him instead of me taking him out in the cold. The girls and I went to Downtown Riverside to the Festival of Lights. (You can read about it on Jenni's Blog.) It was a really great time that we could just enjoy each other's company and walk around the lights of Riverside. As I drove home that night, I thought about how lucky I was to have a husband to share the workload. We both do laundry (especially now that it is in the house with us and we don't have to cart it up and down stairs with a timer set) we both do dishes, clean the house, take care of Brendan. It really is a team effort and I know I could not do it with out him.

Last night, The girls hung out again. We had dinner at Olive Garden, just the girls. Scott once again, watched Brendan so I could have a stress free meal with the girls. Because taking an active toddler to Olive Garden is not my idea of a fun night! In fact, I wouldn't go if I couldn't leave Brendan at home. Scott is lucky enough to have guy friends that understand he has a kid, and some with kids themselves. I am lucky enough to have a husband that understands, I need time alone too.

So Scott hung out with the guys and three kids, while I was able to hang out with 5 amazing girls. I feel so refreshed this morning. I am also reminded that even though I feel stressed with Brendan and the though of another on the way sometimes scares me, I know that I am not alone.

Pumpkin Patch 2009

This year I took Brendan to the Pumpkin Patch to try and get some cute pictures. He enjoyed the pumpkin patch more this year than last, but was not interested in sitting still for pictures. My friend Tawni went with me with her son Sammy. We tried to get pictures of the boys together. This was even less successful than individual pictures! We keep thinking as the boys get older that it will be easier to get pictures taken of them. Now I'm thinking it wont be easier until they are 12 - unless they get that teenage attitude, then we are in trouble!

This was Brendan & both boys at the pumpkin patch last year! What a difference a year makes!

I did get a couple of decent pictures, enjoy!

And then these just made me laugh!

Labor Day BBQ

On Labor Day (last Monday) we had a few people over to our house. It was our second party since moving into our house. Our first was our housewarming party in May, and Scott wanted to make sure this one was better. I don't enjoy spending the entire party in the kitchen, so I pre-made as much as I could that morning. I marinated chicken, and made my famous (okay, maybe not famous, but it is my favorite) pasta salad. Unfortunately, Scott and I are still eating the leftover salad for lunches. I shelled the shrimp and put them on skewers, made a chili & cheese dip in the crock-pot and enjoyed my company when they came over. Scott also wanted to make sure that everyone was happy.

We had a variety of drinks and snacks for people to choose, including a punch that I made up a couple house before the party. I thought it was pretty and fun, especially with the frozen berries floating in the jar. We also tried to have different "activities" to entertain us. Food (of course), games, video games, and hanging outside in our backyard.

Since we have more kids in the mix now, we pulled out Brendan's new sprinkler that I bought for $3.00 on clearance from Bed, Bath & Beyond, and his pool, a birthday present from Aunt Bekah. The kids had a blast (for the most part). I think it really helped having something to entertain them with.

To end the night we had 12 adults sit down and try to play a board game. It was a little slow, but I think it was great having everyone together playing a game was a lot of fun. I look forward to hosting more parties through the years!

Our Little Handyman

Since buying the new house we have had a bunch of little things that need to be done. Luckily, we have friends like Dave that have been extremely helpful with our house.
Dave came over a couple weeks ago and noticed that our ceiling fans wouldn't come on, they weren't connected to a light switch and even when I put new bulbs in, they wouldn't come on. Dave decided to fix it for us! (Okay, I may have bribed him with cookies or cake...I can't remember). Brendan was so intrigued by his handyman skills.
Let's just say, Dave didn't really mind the attention from an adoring fan.
"Can I help? I've got the tape measure!"
"No? What about a rubber ducky instead?"

He has so much to learn! Thanks Dave for fixing our lights! We can now see in every room of the house!

New Pictures

On Monday, Tawni and I took our cute little babies to get a few pictures taken. Although we didn't get as many options of the two of them smiling together as we had hoped, there were a couple of good shots. as well as a great shot of Brendan with his teeth! The funny thing is that while we were at the mall, we have at least 7 people ask us if they were twins! Do they look like they could be twins at all?? The one below is my favorite picture of Sammy & Brendan. If you have time, swing on over to Tawni's Blog to see her take on the pictures, and more options! It has been so nice to have the boys play together recently. I am excited as they get older that we can do more events together with the boys.

My next toy I want to buy for Brendan is one of those cheap baby wading pools for my backyard. Wouldn't Brendan & Sammy have a blast just splashing around? Maybe next weekend I'll head on out to ToysRus...
